Scrapbook collection of Civil War photographs, notes, and autographs, assembled by Philip Case Lockwood, beginning in 1862. His collection expanded beyond the original goal of collecting the autographs of Union generals to include those of members of the Cabinet and a few naval officers, until it comprised 621 names in all. Lockwood's annotations on each officer's career accompany the individual's autograph and photograph. Also contains a photograph of Lockwood, taken in London on 30 Oct. 1886.

Born in Charlestown, Mass., Philip Lockwood began collecting autographs of general officers in the second year of the Civil War when he was eighteen years old.
